"More is different" - P.W. Anderson

Houda Nait El Barj leads research at OpenAI on emerging AI systems and new forms of human–AI interaction.

Her work sits at the frontier of AI research, human experience, and design, exploring how increasingly intelligent systems become part of human life. She focuses on building AI that can support people over time, and ultimately contribute to human flourishing.

Before OpenAI, Houda pursued a PhD at Stanford University across both Computer Science and Statistics.

Her writing explores the social, philosophical, and design implications of increasingly capable AI systems.

Her essays have appeared in publications including Noema and Le Figaro, and she has been featured on podcasts including The Next Wave. She also writes Human Flourishing with AI, a publication about the emerging relationship between people and intelligent systems.
